Chun’s work is rooted in the Korean culture, especially in its tradition of wrapping and assembling. He has been using Korean mulberry paper or hanji since the early 1990s for his series entitled ‘Aggregation’. Chun creates a relief-like effect in his work by wrapping tiny pieces of triangular-shaped styrofoam in mulberry paper tied with cord of knotted hanji. After being dyed various subtle colours using natural extracts, the collection of thousands of triangular ‘amulets’ are assembled on a wooden frame to create a startling illusion of depth. --website
