Long-Bin Chen

Long-Bin Chen uses in his artwork discarded books, magazines and computer printouts. His art form explores the different cultural meanings from the East with those from the West and seeks to combine their ideas and concepts. In the World Buddha Project he expresses what he considers the cultural conflict and the problems with communication in the world. In this project he sculpted a Buddha Head using New York City telephone books. The Buddha Head contains the names and numbers of millions of New Yorkers. The Head represents a caring Buddha, a Buddha from the East who has come to care for the West.
