Petra Ellert does use the paper medium, at least in a pre-used state, but she carries what leaves the mill as a plain and conveniently enough, bland cellulose product, into a wry physicality that makes one quite forget the familiar two-dimensional aspect. Her work is characterized not by the emotiveness of solid material and elaborate, laborious shaping processes, but by the complexity of simultaneous, multiple views and multiple scenes, that this material is susceptible of bringing forth.
