Jin-Woo Lee uses the thinnest and most transparent type of mulberry paper, hanji. He glues the sheet of paper onto canvas. Then, he paints with ink, walnut stain and diluted pigments on the paper. He also adds charcoal, soil, and pigments. Next, he glues another sheet of paper upon the first one, pounding and rubbing it to push out the air between the layers, to obtain perfect transparency. This action is repeated many times. When he has reached the final surface, he scrapes it with an iron brush until he uncovers the matter, which had been imprisoned between the layers of paper.
