Oskar

According to Oskar, her choice to work with paper was more or less coincidental. She has always painted and wanted to see her figures in 3-dimensions. Paper was the obvious material to use. Now she has been making paper sculptures for years. She uses paper from telephone books because it has the right structure and strength. In some parts of the sculpture the text shines through, which enhances the transparency and sensitivity.
She starts with a frame of fine chicken wire, and pastes a skin of paper over it. This paper skin has to communicate the emotion and feelings of the theme of the sculpture. Afterwards she paints the sculpture and lets part of the paper show through. It makes her sculptures more tactile and intimate.
