Noriko Yamaguchi spent years dyeing and weaving but gradually she moved from textiles to paper. Not only is paper extremely accessible but it also brings us back down to earth; by working with paper she feels re-earthed. Yamaguchi often uses traditional Japanese paper, washi. She twists small strips of paper into paper threads, incorporating small pieces of paper like leaves sprouting from a twig. The paper threads are knotted into thin, floral like nets.
Twisting paper and other objects is very repetitive. Yet in the very act of repetition, chance creates variation and intricacy.
